Russian Drone Attack on Kyiv Injures Seven, Ignites Fires in Civilian Areas

Unable to obtain military progress, Russians continued to target Ukraine’s civilian population, with another overnight assault on Kyiv. Russians launched a barrage of Shahed drones on the city, wounding seven civilians, including two children aged 14 and 17, and setting residential neighborhoods ablaze. The attack, which triggered air raid sirens for nearly an hour, targeted Ukraine’s capital with callous disregard for human life, damaging homes, vehicles, and a shopping mall in the Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts, according to Kyiv’s military administration.
Ukrainian air defenses downed several drones, but debris from the intercepted weapons sparked fires that required 76 firefighters to extinguish, as reported by local authorities. Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed the injuries and widespread damage on Telegram, highlighting Russia’s deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure. The Kremlin’s latest aggression, coming hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s plea for a 30-day ceasefire, exposes Moscow’s sham diplomacy and its intent to prolong suffering in Ukraine.
This strike follows Russia’s deadly April 24, 2025, attack on Kyiv, which killed 12 and injured 90, underscoring a pattern of escalating brutality. Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s rejection of a meaningful truce, accusing Vladimir Putin of staging a three-day ceasefire for propaganda during Victory Day celebrations. The European Union’s Kaja Kallas called Russia’s actions a “mockery” of peace efforts, as Putin’s regime continues to rain terror on Ukrainian civilians.
Despite Russia’s savage campaign, Ukraine’s air defenses and emergency services demonstrated resilience, saving countless lives. The international community must intensify sanctions and arm Ukraine to counter Moscow’s relentless war machine, which thrives on destruction and defies calls for peace. Russians are monsters.
