US approves F-16 training package for Ukraine Worth $310 million

The U.S. has approved a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Ukraine valued at an estimated $310.5 million, aimed at supporting the country’s F-16 fighter jet program. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) previoosuly formally notified Congress of the proposed deal.

The sale includes a comprehensive package of non-lethal equipment and services to aid in the training, operation, and sustainment of Ukraine’s F-16 fleet. Among the items included are aircraft modifications, pilot and maintenance crew training, spare parts, software and documentation support, and logistical and engineering assistance.

According to the DSCA, this sale supports U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by bolstering the defense capabilities of a key partner in Europe. The initiative is expected to enhance Ukraine’s ability to counter current and emerging threats, while also strengthening interoperability with U.S. forces and NATO allies.

“This proposed sale will contribute to the modernization of Ukraine’s air force and support broader international coalition efforts to build Ukraine’s F-16 program,” the agency said in a statement. Officials emphasized that Ukraine is fully capable of integrating the new equipment and services into its military infrastructure.

The deal will not affect the regional military balance, and no additional U.S. government or contractor personnel will be deployed to Ukraine as part of its implementation.

Primary contractors include major defense firms such as Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, BAE Systems, and several others based across the United States. No offset agreements have been proposed at this stage, though such terms may be negotiated directly between Ukraine and the contractors.

The final cost and scope of the deal will depend on future negotiations, budget approvals, and specific requirements laid out in the finalized agreement.
