Ukrainian Forces Advance in Russia’s Kursk Region

Ukrainian forces have made further progress in Russia’s Kursk region, continuing their offensive near the border, with Ukrainian troops advancing toward the villages of Tyotkino and Novy Put, with confirmed fighting in these areas, particularly around Novy Put. This operation, which began in August 2024, aims to create a buffer zone to prevent Russian cross-border attacks and disrupt their military activities.

The above map shows Ukrainian movements from Plekhove toward Tyotkino and Novy Put, reflecting a deliberate push to secure strategic positions in this border region.

A key tactical move in this advance was the destruction of a bridge near Zvanoye, aimed at hindering Russian logistics. By targeting this infrastructure, Ukrainian forces are working to isolate Russian units, disrupting their ability to reinforce positions or maintain supply lines. This action aligns with Ukraine’s broader strategy in Kursk, which focuses on weakening Russian defenses through precise strikes on critical assets.

A Russian drone command post was targeted, with a Ukrainian soldier involved in the operation remarking, “The Russians left behind their equipment, maps, and even their tea mugs—they ran so fast.” While the command center was not captured, the rapid retreat of Russian forces indicates the pressure Ukrainian troops are exerting, forcing Russian units to abandon valuable equipment and resources in their haste to withdraw. This disruption to Russian drone operations could limit their aerial reconnaissance and coordination, providing Ukraine with a tactical advantage in the area.

The ongoing conflict in Kursk demonstrates Ukraine’s commitment to maintaining pressure on Russian forces. Through strategic advances near Tyotkino and Novy Put, the destruction of the Zvanoye bridge, and actions against key assets like the drone command center, Ukraine is systematically challenging Russian control in the region. The situation remains fluid, with Ukrainian forces showing determination to weaken Russian defenses and protect their sovereignty in this contested border area.
